Kirk Mattie
Chief Executive Officer
After more then 20 years working in the marine industry as a marine engineer, Kirk developed a clear appreciation of the unique needs of seagoing professionals and marine operations. He noticed that most maintenance programs seemed to be designed by computer programmers and company senior managers, where few had a real connection or understanding of working aboard ships. They too often missed the mark in the unique needs of ships crew using the programs.
He completed a Bachelor in Business Administration from St. Francis Xavier before exploring the world in his seagoing career. He took this perspective to each of the wide range of responsibilities held over the years. Developed an appreciation for the difficulties faced with remote management from the office, and the isolation as crew.
From scraping the bilge to Vessel Manager, Electrical Tech Officer to Chief Engineer, Kirk held positions at many levels. In each one, he noticed how properly designed accessible software could help in the daily lives of crew, improve record keeping, and facilitate the proper flow of quality information to the ship managers. Having programs with the crew in mind increases the quality of the data getting to the shore. Kirk with his brother David, started Mattie Marine Services and got to work with the crew in mind, to create the programs he wanted onboard.
